Create a Raingarden: Learn how at Free Workshop April 18

Posted by PLSLWD Staff - March 28, 2019 - News

PLSLWD & the Scott Soil and Water Conservation District are hosting a free raingarden workshop on Thursday, April 18th from 6:30 to 8 pm at the Spring Lake Town Hall, 20381 Fairlawn Ave, Prior Lake.

A raingarden is a small basin of colorful native plants that add beauty to your yard while collecting stormwater runoff from your roof, lawn and driveway.  This workshop will give you step-by-step instructions to help you successfully plan and plant a raingarden.

An incentive of $250 to $750 may be available to help offset the costs of plants, compost and labor when you install a raingarden.  The workshop is open to all Scott County residents.  To register, visit scottswcd.org or call the Scott SWCD office at 952-492-5425.

Creating Your Raingarden Workshop

Posted by PLSLWD Staff - April 13, 2016 - News

Two “Creating Your Raingarden” Blue Thumb Workshops are planned for this spring in Scott County:

  • Tuesday, April 19, 2016 from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. at Spring Lake Town Hall
  • Saturday, April 23, 2016 from 10:00 – 11:30 a.m. at the Scott County Fairgrounds

rain-garden-xRaingardens are designed to catch rainwater runoff from your roof, driveway, walkways, parking lot and lawn. They provide beautiful and colorful accents while attracting wildlife and pollinators.

Unlike a typical vegetable or flower garden, a raingarden is intended to improve water quality of nearby creeks, streams, lakes and rivers. They include deep-rooted native to Minnesota plants that tolerate being partially flooded on occasion. And the best part is there is little maintenance after you dig, mulch and plant your raingarden. Other than simple weeding and watering, raingardens don’t require a lot of attention, but add life and variety to your landscape.

You can register for either of these workshops by calling the Scott SWCD office at 952-492-5425 or visiting the Scott SWCD webpage. You can mail your payment to Scott SWCD, 7151 190 St W, Suite 125, Jordan MN 55352, to secure your spot in the workshop. There is a $10 fee per person.
