This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Prior Lake-Spring Lake Watershed District! The District was founded March 4, 1970 in response to a petition filed by residents for the purpose of wisely managing & conserving the District’s waters and natural resources.
We will be celebrating our 50th Anniversary with several special activities and events this year, including a Hike the Watershed Challenge and a Trivia Night at the Boathouse Brothers Brewery!
Improving Your Water Resources for 50 Years
Over the last 50 years the District has been busy implementing projects and various programs to improve and protect the lakes, creeks and wetlands of the District for the benefits of the humans and critters that live here. Check out some highlights of the last 50 years in our 50th Anniversary brochure here.
Hike the Watershed Challenge
Visit your favorite parks and discover new places close to home! This is a great activity for all ages – go for a walk or grab your bikes and head out the door. Use the Hike the Watershed checklist to keep track of the parks you’ve visited. For extra fun, bring along the Hike the Watershed Bingo card and mark down the things you see while hiking the watershed!
Hike the Watershed highlights many local parks, smaller lakes in the watershed and District restoration projects. We hope you will take this opportunity to get to know your backyard just a little bit better!
Prizes: Visit 6 places on the Hike the Watershed list or score a bingo to win a special edition Hike the Watershed waterproof sticker. For an extra challenge visit all 11 sites or score a blackout on your bingo card to earn some extra swag.
To collect your prize: Email kkeller-miller@plslwd.org 1) a list of the sites you visited and a photo from your adventures or 2) a photo of your completed bingo card along with a photo from your explorations of the District.
Celebrations & Activities Planned
We will be celebrating our 50th Anniversary with more special activities and events throughout 2020 and 2021 (thanks to the pandemic), including a Trivia Night at the Boathouse Brothers Brewery (fingers crossed!) and possibly a few group hikes to go with the Hike the Watershed Challenge, so keep an eye out for more information!
