UPDATE (10/22/20): Mother Nature still has some tricks up her sleeve! Due to the early snow, we are POSTPONING the leaf raking to Oct 30-Nov 1. The buckthorn removal will go ahead as planned for this weekend (Oct 23-25). Email kkeller-miller@plslwd.org with questions.
This fall’s Clean Water Clean-Up is this weekend and volunteers can still sign up! The clean-up will be held over the course of the weekend (Oct. 23-25) at Sand Point Beach Park (14349 Crest Ave) and Jeffers Pond in Prior Lake.
Registered volunteers can come any time over the weekend and will have the option of removing buckthorn at Jeffers Pond and/or raking leaves at Sand Point Beach!
We ask that all volunteers sign-up for the event beforehand as event details will be emailed to participants prior to the event. To sign up for the event click here.
As usual volunteers should bring their own work gloves and tools to rake or remove buckthorn. Event is free and family-friendly. Volunteers will be entered into drawing for door prizes from local businesses.
To prevent the spread of the coronavirus, we remind volunteers to maintain social distancing from people not from your household. Wearing a mask is recommended if you are not able to maintain a 6-foot distance between people from outside your household group. Participation in this event is voluntary and done at your own risk.
For questions, email Kathryn at kkeller-miller@plslwd.org or call 952-447-4166.
Every spring and fall we host a Clean Water Clean-Up event to rake up leaves and remove buckthorn. This prevents the leaves from being carried down the storm drains into the lakes. Leaves contain significant amounts of phosphorus which can contribute to algae growth in lakes during the summer. Buckthorn is an invasive species which often takes over wooded areas, crowding out native species and degrading wildlife habitat.
