The Prior Lake-Spring Lake Watershed District (PLSLWD) will be completing a bank stabilization project in the Prior Lake Outlet Channel beginning October 7 and running through early November. The project will repair large sections of erosion in the channel caused by the 2014 flooding event. To minimize water quality impacts from in-stream construction activities, the main gate on the outlet structure will be closed during portions of this project which will stop or reduce water in the channel. No water is able to leave Prior Lake when the main gate is closed, however the gate will be opened whenever possible during this time.
PLSLWD will be monitoring the water levels very closely and the lake level graphs might fluctuate strangely over the next month as a result of the outlet structure management. If lake elevations get too high during this time, the gate will be opened. After construction activities have been completed, both the main and low-flow gates will be opened until the end of December, or once lake levels reach 902’ (whichever comes first) to expedite water levels returning to normal should they change considerably.
