The Minnesota DNR began work last fall on a maintenance and site improvement project at the Spring Lake public access. The work was originally planned to be completed last fall, but due to project delays they will be finishing the work this spring. During the construction they plan to keep the ramp open as much as possible, however, it will be difficult to predict which days it will be open or closed, so please plan accordingly.
Work yet to occur this spring includes installation of curbs and gutter, paving both lots, installation of rain gardens, signs, toilet screen, and pavement striping.
Little to no work will be occurring until the road restrictions come off (approximately May 7). The site is usable during this time for boat launching. Their goal is to make the site usable on the weekends including the Fishing Opener. The site may need to be closed for one weekend when the concrete approach panel is poured so it can cure. They will try to pour it early in the week so it would be ready by the weekend. At this time the DNR does not have any further details on the project timeline.
The project includes improvements to the storm water management, the addition of an Aquatic Invasive Species boat inspection and cleaning area, new (night sky friendly) lighting, a new boat ramp, new bituminous for the parking lots, and shoreline restoration. If you have any additional questions you can contact Nancy Stewart at the DNR (nancy.stewart@state.mn.us).
